Undergraduate Majors

Geology (GEL01)

Major for students wishing to obtain professional qualifications in geology with many students going on to a fourth year to complete an Honours degree. Flexibility within the program allows for specialisation in different aspects of geology (eg. volcanism, palaeontology, tectonics, ore deposits). This program is designed for any student seeking a career in geology whether it be in a teaching, research, exploration, mining or environmental field. Requirements of this major can be found here.

Suggestions for achieving further Geology majors with minors can be found below:
Geology major and Geophysics minor
Geology major and Environmental Geology minor
Geology major and Palaeobiology minor

Geophysics (GEP01)

Major providing professional qualifications in geophysics with many students going onto a fourth year to complete an honours degree. Geophysicists aid employment in any field where it is important to locate objects hidden beneath the surface. Most find employment in the mineral and fossil fuel exploration industries or in the field of environmental sciences. Requirements of this major can be found here.

Physics major and Geophysics minor

Environmental Geology (EGE01)

Major for students wishing to obtain professional qualifications in Environmental Geology. A strong interdisciplinary flavour is generated with units selected from units in Earth and Planetary Sciences and Environment and Geography. Many students go on to a fourth year to complete an honours degree. Requirements of this major can be found here.

Suggestions for achieving further Environmental Geology majors with minors can be found below:

Coherencies (These are applicable for students who commenced their program prior to 2010 only)

Geology and Geophysics

A coherency providing professional qualifications in both geophysics and geology. In all fields of earth and planetary sciences, geology and geophysics techniques are commonly applied in concert; professionals with expertise in both fields are important members of most teams of geoscientists. This coherency is appropriate for those seeking a career in geoscience, especially in the environmental and exploration industries.

Bachelor of Environment

You can undertake an Environmental Geology major within these two programs:

Environmental Management and Environmental Science (ENVI01)
Environmental Science (ENVI03)

Bachelor of Marine Science

Marine Geoscience (MARS02)

This program caters for students interested in oceanography, the marine environment and its exploration, marine geophysics or sedimentology.
